ACTIVITIES
Hike along breathtaking cliffs, canoe the Dordogne river, cycle uncrowded back roads, browse for unique antiques, visit prehistoric caves, picnic along the vineyard paths… here you will find undisturbed natural beauty and truly friendly locals.
Culinary delights from our region include goat cheese, foie gras, walnuts, truffles, wild blackberries, and red wine from Cahors. "...perhaps it has exported everyone with a genetic tendency to be disagreeable." - Peter Davidson, writing about the Lot Valley in "The Provence of the Past", Atlantic Monthly, January 2001
The Lot region has its own special charm – a great mix of rural beauty, interesting architecture, and historical landmarks. If you prefer not drive for few days, you may:
- Wander the streets of Autoire, and visit the Romanesque church, built in 1100; you will likely see artists sketching the homes and landscapes.
- Take a twenty-minute walk through the hamlet of Paradou and a lovely forest to a 100-foot waterfall.
- Hike up to the cliffhanging “Chateau des Anglais” used as a look-out in the 1300s during the Hundred Years’ War.
- Stroll along the Route des Vignes (vineyard path) overlooking Autoire. - Take a longer hike atop the cliff face to the beautiful village of Loubressac and relax at one of its cafés. - Simply sit in the hammock out back by the stream and read a book. "A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it." -John Steinbeck |
